Every year until 2008, Blundell's School nominated a student from the Faculty of Fine Art to spend a week with us at Estudio Campana.  ( See award details for alternative option from 2008. )

Joanna was awarded the prize for 2007, and joined us from 6th to 13th September.  (See Art Award page for amended / full details of how it now works).

The coastline and fishing boats of Cabo de Gata are always a rich source of material.

Jo hadn't worked in oil before but
quickly found her 'alla prima' style
which captures the rich textures
of wood paint and cement.

Colours were limited to blues, browns
and blacks, with copious white.
A restricted palette is very effective
in these conditions, where the
high UV levels bleach out any
colour.

Jo has commenced her course at the University of Bath and we wish her well in her studies and her art. It was a very enjoyable and productive week!
